SK Telecom and Singtel Join Forces to Develop Next-Generation Telecom Technology and Solutions

SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM, “SKT”) and Singtel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on building next-generation telecommunications networks over the next two years. This partnership aims to drive innovation, enhance network performance and security, and improve customer experiences. The companies will explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI), orchestration tools, and deepen their expertise in network virtualization and other key technologies essential for advancing towards 6G.

The collaboration will also focus on developing innovative solutions to elevate network capabilities, such as Edge-AI Infrastructure. This technology reduces the computational burden on the cloud by utilizing edge computing and performing AI inference, enhancing connectivity, offering unique AI services, and enabling faster service restoration, thus improving customer experience.

Additionally, SKT and Singtel will co-author a white paper detailing their advancements in areas such as virtualization, slicing, and network evolution. This document aims to help other telecom operators worldwide capitalize on 5G capabilities and prepare for 6G.

Kang Jong-ryeol, SKT’s Head of ICT Infra (CSPO), stated, “The collaboration between SKT and Singtel marks a significant first step in shaping the future of the global telecommunications industry. By combining the strengths of both companies, we aim to achieve efficient high-performance network construction, enhance network stability, and discover new network-based services. Additionally, we will strive to make significant advancements in next-generation communication technologies, including AI-powered wired and wireless infrastructure.”

Tay Yeow Lian, Singtel’s Managing Director of Networks, added, “As a global leader in 5G technology, we’re keen to capitalize on the myriad capabilities this technology offers, especially in network slicing and AI. With SKT, we’re looking to not only enhance the experience of our customers but also drive industry innovation and prepare for the evolution to 6G.
