TELUS is elevating internet connectivity in Western Canada with the launch of its PureFibre 5 Gigabit Internet plan, marking a significant advancement in internet technology. This new plan offers customers the fastest symmetrical download and upload speeds available. As the region’s sole provider of 100% pure fibre-to-the-home, TELUS continues to lead in delivering cutting-edge, sustainable, and reliable internet services to Alberta and British Columbia.
The PureFibre 5 Gigabit Internet plan includes state-of-the-art Wi-Fi 6E hardware, ensuring seamless performance for activities such as gaming, web browsing, video calls, remote work and learning, and 4K streaming.
“With the introduction of our PureFibre 5 Gigabit Internet plan, TELUS is setting a new benchmark in home connectivity, offering unmatched internet experiences and value,” stated Zainul Mawji, Executive Vice-President and President of TELUS Consumer Solutions. “We anticipate that future technologies will demand even higher bandwidths, which is why we’re excited to expand our network capabilities to support speeds of up to 25 Gigabits, meeting the evolving needs of consumers and industries for years to come.”
TELUS is also testing 25 Gigabit Passive Optical Network (PON) technology in collaboration with Nokia to deliver next-generation connectivity solutions. This new speed tier will support the growing demand for high-bandwidth applications such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), the Metaverse, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). By utilizing existing fibre optic infrastructure, TELUS aims to enhance speeds beyond 5 Gigabit, with plans to reach up to 25 Gigabits in the coming years.
From 2000 to 2023, TELUS invested $259 billion nationally in network infrastructure, operations, and spectrum. The company has committed to an additional $73 billion investment by 2028 to further develop infrastructure, improve sustainability, and advance network technology. These investments are essential for connecting Canadians to vital resources and information, reinforcing TELUS’ commitment to technological advancement and nationwide connectivity. TELUS also remains dedicated to strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. Through public-private partnerships, TELUS has connected 606 Indigenous lands to its broadband networks and 248 Indigenous lands to its PureFibre network, positively impacting rural and Indigenous households and businesses.
