Cognite, a global leader in industrial software, and NOVA Chemicals, a major North American polyethylene producer, have announced a multi-site manufacturing data connectivity initiative aimed at accelerating digital transformation across NOVA Chemicals’ operations.
NOVA Chemicals will implement Cognite’s Industrial DataOps platform, Cognite Data Fusion®, to unify data from various systems such as SAP, Hexagon, and Aspen IP21 into a real-time industrial knowledge graph. This scalable, flexible representation of NOVA Chemicals’ operations will streamline data flow across the organization, improving data access, trust, and significantly reducing the time spent on data discovery.
“At NOVA, we manage asset information across multiple independent systems, making it complex and time-consuming to get the right information to the right people,” said David Lyford, Operational Excellence Leader at NOVA Chemicals. “Cognite’s platform enables us to contextualize siloed data, ensuring timely access to critical information. This strengthens our core operations and provides deeper insights into our processes, ultimately enhancing decision-making and securing a competitive advantage.”
As part of its strategy to remain a leading polyethylene producer, NOVA Chemicals will extend this data connectivity initiative across its 11 manufacturing sites. This effort is set to address key challenges and create lasting value, including:
- Enhanced data accessibility for field operations, reducing time spent on data discovery
- Efficiency gains in isolation planning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operations support
- Improved equipment insights to prevent failures, reduce costs, and enhance safety and process consistency
- Scalable enterprise technology solutions that lower operating costs and accelerate sustainability initiatives
NOVA will share more about this initiative at IMPACT 2024, the world’s largest industrial user conference, happening on October 14-15 in Houston, Texas. The event will showcase the data management and AI capabilities of Cognite Data Fusion.
