Odido has successfully transformed the billing experience for its mobile customers in the Netherlands by migrating to the cloud-native Ericsson Billing platform, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This transformation enables Odido to provide innovative 5G services, such as the recently launched Klik&Klaar fixed-wireless access (FWA) solution, while improving operational efficiency and customer experience.
“This migration is a key milestone in our strategy to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Partnering with Ericsson and Wipro has allowed us to modernize our billing infrastructure, ensuring we are well-positioned to monetize the growing demand for 5G services,” said Odido’s leadership.
The migration, completed in August 2024, involved transitioning 5 million customers over a single weekend. This follows the earlier successful migration of 700,000 Ben MVNO users in November 2023. With this project, all of Odido’s mobile customers, whether B2B or B2C, are now supported by Ericsson Billing, hosted on AWS.
Wipro, acting as the end-to-end system integrator, collaborated closely with Ericsson and Odido to design and implement the solution. This seamless integration into Odido’s IT landscape lowers technical debt, simplifies the customer journey, and reduces operating costs.
Odido CEO Søren Abildgaard highlighted the achievement: “We’ve successfully completed a billing migration with zero faults—a process often compared to open-heart surgery on a marathon runner, and we pulled it off seamlessly.”
Mats Karlsson, Head of Solution Area Business & Operations Support Systems at Ericsson, added: “This transformation enables Odido to deliver superior service experiences at scale. Our cloud-native billing platform provides the flexibility and scalability needed to meet the demands of 5G and beyond, positioning Odido for future growth and innovation.”
Sarat Chand, Managing Director for Northern Europe at Wipro Limited, expressed pride in the accomplishment: “As a trusted partner to Odido, we’re proud to deliver this complex billing transformation. This milestone enables Odido to fully embrace automated billing capabilities and state-of-the-art operations on a scalable cloud infrastructure, enhancing their ability to launch new services and improve customer experiences in the Dutch market.”
Future-Ready and Scalable
Ericsson Billing, a cloud-native product certified on AWS, provides a convergent, end-to-end billing system. Odido’s transition to this platform delivers enhanced automation, improved billing accuracy, and greater efficiency in scaling new services. The solution’s flexibility also fosters collaboration, allowing other system integrators to integrate it seamlessly into communication service providers’ IT networks. This future-proof system is designed to support growth and advancements in technology while reducing operational costs.
Robert Purdy, Odido’s Chief Information Officer, emphasized the importance of the migration: “This step is crucial in our strategy to provide an exceptional customer experience. Our collaboration with Ericsson and Wipro has modernized our billing infrastructure, ensuring we are ready to capitalize on the increasing demand for 5G services.”
