Radisys, a global leader in open telecom solutions, announced its inclusion in the AccelerComm® 5G Ecosystem Partner Program, formalizing their long-standing partnership. This collaboration aims to help Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) unlock new business opportunities for Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) 5G communication, expanding coverage to previously inaccessible areas due to high costs and enabling innovative applications that were once too expensive.
The partnership will support the adoption of SATCOM technology using 3GPP standards-compliant solutions, reducing costs and improving network flexibility. It will also enable cross-compatibility with Radisys’ NR-NTN gNodeB software, NTN 5G Core (5GC), Multi Non-3GPP Interworking Gateway (AGF/TWIF) software for interworking with legacy NTN technologies, and Radisys’ RIC for monitoring and controlling multi-layer/ad-hoc reconfigurable satellite networks.
5G LEO regenerative satellites represent a major advancement over traditional satellite communication systems, which typically rely on simple relays that receive and retransmit signals between ground stations, resulting in higher latency and lower efficiency. In contrast, 5G LEO regenerative satellites are equipped with advanced processing capabilities to handle and route data directly, reducing latency, increasing data throughput, and improving network efficiency.
Last year, AccelerComm and Radisys collaborated to develop a high-performance Regenerative 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solution based on 3GPP standards for deployment on low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites. This initiative integrated the expertise and technology of both companies, as well as contributions from ecosystem partners, to create a 5G regenerative gNodeB (gNB) solution designed for the challenges of the NTN environment.
AccelerComm delivers comprehensive 5G New Radio (NR) Layer 1 solutions that optimize 5G RAN performance, addressing challenges related to throughput, latency, and spectral efficiency in 5G deployments. Radisys’ 5G software, which supports NTN capabilities across geostationary, medium, and low earth orbit satellites (GEO/MEO/LEO), features a scalable and flexible architecture designed to integrate seamlessly with SATCOM infrastructure.
“Our partnership with Radisys has consistently driven innovative solutions in 5G communications,” said Tom Cronk, CEO of AccelerComm. “We are confident that this enhanced collaboration will continue to drive innovation in 5G NR communications, offering our customers improved performance and new business opportunities.”
Munish Chhabra, Head of Mobility Software and Services at Radisys, added, “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our ongoing relationship with AccelerComm. By combining our advanced software with their physical layer IP solutions, we are set to deliver groundbreaking performance and innovation in the 5G NTN market.”
