Airtel turbo charges its network in Assam and Northeast for superior voice and data connectivity

Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications providers, has completed the deployment of additional spectrum acquired in July 2024. The company has deployed an extra 5 MHz on the 1800 band in Assam and 5 MHz on the 2100 band across Assam and the Northeast. This upgrade enhances Airtel’s 5G/4G network capacity, improving data speeds and providing better coverage inside homes and buildings in both urban and rural areas.

With the deployment now complete, Airtel customers across Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh will experience improved voice and data services. The upgrade will also expand Airtel’s coverage along highways and rail routes, extending its reach into rural areas as demand for connectivity continues to rise.

Rajnish Verma, CEO of Airtel Assam and Northeast, stated, “Airtel is committed to delivering superior network performance. With this new spectrum, customers across the region can enjoy enhanced call quality, faster data speeds, and an overall improved experience. We remain dedicated to investing in technologies that elevate service quality for our customers in Assam and the Northeast.”

In the recent spectrum auction, Bharti Airtel secured 20 MHz of spectrum, re-acquiring its expired holdings and expanding its Sub-GHz spectrum. The company also consolidated fragmented spectrum blocks into continuous spectrum. Airtel holds the largest pool of mid-band spectrum across the 900, 1800, 2100, and 2300 bands, positioning it well to meet the growing demand for high-speed 5G and 4G services. Airtel has also begun re-farming its mid-band spectrum for 5G to support increasing data usage.
