Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), Thailand’s leading digital life service provider, has unveiled its plans to launch AIS Cloud, the nation’s first locally owned and operated hyperscale cloud platform. This initiative, in collaboration with Oracle Alloy, will offer AIS’ customers and enterprises throughout Thailand—including public sector entities—access to over 100 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, including cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Oracle stands out as the sole hyperscaler that provides AI and a comprehensive suite of over 100 cloud services across dedicated, public, and hybrid cloud environments globally.
With a robust track record of serving over 45 million subscribers in Thailand, AIS aims to leverage the cloud’s scalability, performance, and innovation potential. Oracle Alloy was chosen to enhance AIS’ service offerings, ensuring compliance with data residency and sovereignty requirements, such as Thailand’s Personal Data Protection (PDPA) Act and Cybersecurity Act. AIS Cloud will be the only hyperscale cloud provider within the country, offering crucial business resilience and in-country disaster recovery capabilities.
Somchai Lertsutiwong, AIS Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing digital technology infrastructure for superior customer experiences in Thailand. “For over 34 years, AIS has been at the forefront of digital innovation, leveraging our network potential and partnerships to support both public and private sector organizations in their digital transformation efforts,” he said. “Our collaboration with Oracle Alloy marks a significant step in transforming AIS from a telco to a tech company, driving digital transformation and AI innovation across Thailand.”
AIS Cloud, to be deployed across two AIS data centers in Thailand, will be managed by AIS, offering local support and solutions tailored to regulatory needs. This setup will allow customers to address data sovereignty concerns and meet industry regulations while migrating and modernizing their cloud environments.
Garrett Ilg, Oracle’s Executive Vice President and General Manager for Japan & Asia Pacific, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership. “Thailand represents a key market for Oracle, and our collaboration with AIS will be a game-changer for the industry. It enables AIS to become a hyperscale cloud provider, offering local cloud solutions and AI capabilities tailored to Thai customers’ needs,” he said.
Daphne Chung, Research Director for Cloud Services and Software Research at IDC Asia/Pacific, noted the growing trend in sovereign cloud adoption. “IDC forecasts a 31.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sovereign cloud spending in APEJ. The 2023 APEJ Cloud Survey indicates that 19% of organizations plan to increase their sovereign cloud investments, driven by compliance, regulations, and operational resilience needs.
