Chunghwa Telecom and Poland’s EXATEL Telecom have achieved a major milestone in the advancement of 5G technology. Today, the two companies announced the successful field validation of their 5G private networks and the integration of EXATEL’s SDN TechSystem at Chunghwa Telecom’s Yawan building and the Askey 5G field at Shoushan Zoo. This joint solution merges Chunghwa Telecom’s 5G private network capabilities with EXATEL’s SDN (Software-Defined Networking) technology, Askey’s 5G deployment, and Taiwan’s network equipment, providing a robust network integration service. This collaboration highlights an exemplary model of international partnership between Taiwan and Poland. Importantly, this marks the first deployment of EXATEL’s SDN solution in Asia. The success of this validation follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 27, 2023, for business cooperation and a network interconnection agreement between Taiwan and Poland. Additionally, the introduction of the “5G ZONE”—a 5G smart service application area at EXATEL’s Warsaw headquarters on March 1, 2024—marks a further advancement in 5G technology and smart network applications.
EXATEL, Poland’s leading fixed-line communication provider, delivers premium telecommunications services to major enterprises and government bodies across Europe. With an extensive fiber optic network, EXATEL has concentrated on developing SDN technology, including a remote centralized management platform, scalable network architecture, and solutions that balance stability, security, and cost. Recognizing Chunghwa Telecom’s expertise in 5G deployment and Askey Computer’s successful 5G application at Shoushan Zoo, along with the capabilities of Taiwanese network equipment, EXATEL selected Kaohsiung as the first location in Asia to demonstrate its SDN TechSystem, showcasing a global effort to create cross-border 5G solutions.
Shui-Yi Kuo, Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom, commented, “As Taiwan’s leading telecom operator, Chunghwa Telecom is actively engaged in the development of the ‘Asia New Bay Area – 5G AIoT Innovation Park’ and ‘Asia New Bay Area 2.0 – Smart Technology Innovation Park’ in Kaohsiung. We are committed to forming broad alliances and collaborating with key domestic and international companies. With strong support from the Kaohsiung City Government, we are advancing Taiwan’s industries and smart innovations. The 5G pilot project at Shoushan Zoo, backed by the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau and the Zoo, has successfully created a 5G AR application field using domestic 5G equipment. By choosing Kaohsiung for the Asia-first verification of EXATEL’s SDN TechSystem, we aim to enhance the 5G application field, leveraging Taiwan’s software and hardware strengths to implement EXATEL’s SDN solution. We are eager to continue our international business collaboration with EXATEL and jointly promote global export initiatives.
