Comcast and CommScope Advance Next-Gen Connectivity for Millions in the U.S.

This pioneering smart amplifier will allow us to deliver multi-gig symmetrical services and utilize industry-first embedded AI capabilities to provide unmatched intelligence, service automation, and reliability across our network, said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer at Comcast.

Since the October 2023 launch of FDX DOCSIS 4.0, Comcast has expanded the service to over one million homes across six markets and is rapidly accelerating activation. Amplifiers play a key role in bringing FDX DOCSIS 4.0 to Comcast’s network, which can use up to a six-amplifier cascade to provide multi-gig symmetrical services. With the first deployment of CommScope’s FDX amplifier, Comcast is on track to deliver an unparalleled network experience to homes and businesses nationwide.

CommScope provided the first prototype Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) amplifiers to Comcast’s advanced technology labs in February 2023. Following months of intensive systems testing, Comcast and CommScope collaborated on technology enhancements in preparation for this deployment.

“I am proud to see these major deployment milestones achieved with Comcast after years of FDX development,” said Guy Sucharczuk, SVP & President of Access Network Solutions at CommScope. “These deployments highlight CommScope’s leadership in DOCSIS technology and our ability to extend the capabilities of customers’ HFC cable access networks.”

Nafshi emphasized the need for continuous evolution in hardware and software to meet growing customer demand. “CommScope’s FDX amplifiers and RPD nodes give us the flexibility to upgrade legacy hardware or deploy new hardware where necessary, ensuring we have the capacity, power, and longevity to meet future needs,” he added.
