EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) has secured an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract under the U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command Spiral 4 program. This contract, administered by the U.S. Navy, will see EchoStar subsidiaries Hughes Network Systems and Boost Mobile providing 5G wireless services and devices to support Department of Defense (DoD) operations across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and during temporary international assignments.
The Spiral 4 program, available to various federal agencies, continues the tradition of previous iterations by offering mobile device delivery and service plan task orders. Over a period of 10 years, including all yearly options, the program is estimated to reach a value of up to $2.7 billion.
Focusing primarily on smartphone devices, Spiral 4 also allows for the inclusion of other 5G-enabled devices such as tablets and IoT equipment. It envisions comprehensive support, including hardware, service plans, customer service, and reporting facilitated through an online portal. Essential to the program are Radio Access Networks (RAN) with support for Radio over Internet Protocol (ROIP) and Citizen Band Radio Services (CBRS).
Commencing in May 2024, Spiral 4 operates on a base year with the potential for nine additional one-year option periods through 2034.
“EchoStar Corporation is honored to contribute significant technological advancements to the DoD and other federal agencies through our innovative Open-RAN based wireless connectivity capabilities,” remarked John Swieringa, President of Technology and COO at EchoStar Corporation. “Through our Boost Mobile brand, the EchoStar team is committed to delivering critical 5G solutions, including devices from various manufacturers and a native 5G Open RAN network.”
