Ivanti, a tech company focused on bridging the gap between IT and security for optimal digital work environments, has released its report on “Securing the Digital Employee Experience.” The report emphasizes the need for organizations to balance robust security measures with a positive digital employee experience (DEX).
The study reveals that when employees face technology challenges or frustrations, they often resort to unsafe workarounds. Notably, half of office workers admit to using personal devices to access work networks, with 32% of these instances going unnoticed by employers. Alarmingly, only 13% of security professionals consider user experience a critical priority in cybersecurity interventions.
“Employees often prioritize convenience over security, which can lead to potential vulnerabilities,” said Mike Riemer, Field CISO at Ivanti. “Companies must understand employee behavior and implement security measures that discourage unsafe practices while maintaining productivity.”
Key Findings:
- Generative AI Risks: As access to generative AI tools increases, 81% of office workers report lacking training on these technologies, and 15% use unsanctioned tools, raising data privacy and compliance concerns.
- Inadequate Secure Tools: Despite the growing number of remote and hybrid workers, only 62% of companies utilize VPNs or zero-trust solutions to secure network access, and just 57% employ multi-factor authentication.
- Exclusion of Security Leaders: Only 38% of companies involve the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in decisions regarding DEX strategy and investments, despite the potential security benefits of DEX-focused tools.
Ivanti surveyed over 20,000 IT professionals, executives, office workers, and security experts to identify current trends and obstacles to delivering seamless digital experiences.
