Maxis, Malaysia’s leading integrated telecommunications operator, and China Mobile International (CMI), a top global telecom provider, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the China Mobile Southeast Asia Cooperation Conference in Bangkok.
This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership designed to fast-track 5G advancements and harness the combined capabilities of both companies to drive innovation and growth in the telecom sector.
The signing ceremony was graced by key figures including Mr. Gao Tongqing, Executive Vice President of China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd.; Mr. Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis; Mr. Wang Hua, Chairman and CEO of CMI; and Mr. Tan Cheng Peng, Acting Chief Technology Strategy Officer of Maxis. Their attendance underscores the strong commitment of both organizations to this collaboration and their shared vision for the future of telecommunications.
The partnership will leverage CMI’s extensive global network and comprehensive information services, alongside Maxis’ expertise in fixed and mobile infrastructure, digital solutions, and its substantial local enterprise customer base. The MoU outlines several key initiatives, such as developing private 5G networks, 5G consulting and applications, smart park solutions, advancements in artificial intelligence, and joint R&D projects. The companies will also focus on sharing technical expertise and exploring new market opportunities.
This collaboration is set to yield innovative digital solutions and enhanced service offerings, accelerating the rollout of 5G technologies in Malaysia and beyond.
