Motive Expands Consumer Device Entitlements with Direct-to-Cell (D2C) and 5G Slicing Use Cases

Motive Software Systems Inc., a leader in entitlement services, has introduced support for Direct-to-Cell (D2C) satellite connectivity, enabling mobile operators to extend services to remote areas. This rollout will make it easier for operators to provide mobile and internet access in regions that have traditionally been underserved.

Globally, around 570 million people, or 8.7% of the adult population, live in areas with little or no network coverage. Satellite connectivity also benefits businesses reliant on the Internet of Things (IoT), offering seamless access without the need for additional hardware or specialized chipsets. Traditional mobile networks face geographic and economic challenges in reaching these remote areas, making satellite-based solutions a critical innovation.

Monetizing 5G Slicing

Motive has also launched a 5G slicing solution, enabling service providers to offer on-demand network slices to Android smartphone users. This feature allows users to purchase premium network slices tailored for specific activities such as gaming, streaming, broadcasting, and social media. By optimizing network performance, traffic routing, latency, and security, operators can enhance the user experience while creating new revenue streams. These on-demand slices can even be activated at base stations in high-demand locations like concert arenas.

Nick Wennekers, SVP & GM of Device Management at Motive, commented: “The rapid evolution of technology and standards is opening up new features and revenue opportunities for global operators. We’re excited to deliver these Direct-to-Cell Satellite Connectivity and 5G slicing use cases to enhance customer experiences.”
