Rogers Communications made a significant announcement today, revealing its role as the title partner of Calgary’s exclusive PGA TOUR Champions tournament, formerly known as the Shaw Charity Classic. To inaugurate its involvement, Rogers is jumpstarting fundraising efforts for the event’s charitable endeavors with a generous $1 million donation.

Last year marked a pivotal moment for the tournament, as it surpassed the $100 million milestone in funds raised for Alberta charities since its inception. Now known as Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink, the initiative aids thousands of youth annually through various programs spanning counseling, sports, and family assistance. Until August 2024, donations pledged to participating charities via Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink will be matched up to 50% through the program’s matching pool.
Jim Riddell, Tournament Chairman of the Rogers Charity Classic, expressed gratitude towards Rogers for its dedication to advancing the tournament’s legacy and positively impacting communities across the province. He highlighted the tournament’s significance as a family-friendly professional golf event, a highlight of Calgary’s summer calendar, and emphasized its pivotal role in supporting Alberta charities that cater to children and families.
Tickets for the Rogers Charity Classic, scheduled for August 16 to 18, 2024, are now available for purchase. The event offers a range of packages catering to premier spectator experiences and enhanced viewing and hosting opportunities.
Canadian golf legend and Team Rogers athlete, Mike Weir, lauded the Rogers Charity Classic as one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR Champions calendar. He expressed excitement about returning to Calgary each year to compete in front of a Canadian audience and reiterated his enthusiasm for supporting Alberta charities alongside Rogers.
In 2023, Rogers solidified its historic merger with Shaw and announced a new five-year sponsorship of the tournament. This partnership underscores Rogers’ commitment to fostering the growth of golf in Canada and bolstering resilient communities across Alberta.
