Semtech Corporation, a leading provider of high-performance semiconductors, IoT systems, and cloud connectivity services, has announced the sampling of the GN2255S, its next-generation Tri-Edge™ 50 Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) solution. This device features an integrated DML driver for SFP56 50G PAM4 bidirectional (BiDi) and CWDM6 optical modules. As the only analog solution available for 50 Gbps fronthaul, the new CDR promises simpler, potentially more power-efficient designs, offering real-time signal processing that delivers ultra-low latency essential for 5G Advanced applications, including public safety, industrial control, and smart grid management.
According to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G subscriptions are expected to more than double from 2024 to 2029, with mobile data traffic projected to exceed 230 exabytes per month by 2029. This surge in data demand, coupled with advancements in generative AI, machine learning (ML), and augmented reality (AR), will necessitate significant infrastructure upgrades. The integration of advanced 5G technology will enhance network performance, intelligence, and sustainability through faster data transfer and improved connectivity.
