Spectrum, the nation’s leading rural internet provider, has announced the launch of its high-speed Internet, Mobile, TV, and Voice services for over 6,200 homes and small businesses in Cherokee County, South Carolina. This rollout is part of Spectrum’s $5 billion Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) investment to bring broadband access to underserved rural areas, supported by $1.2 billion from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) RDOF auction.
Spectrum’s RDOF initiative aims to expand broadband to 1.3 million locations across 24 states. The company has also secured over $700 million in state subsidies, which, combined with Spectrum’s own investments, will connect an additional 300,000 homes and small businesses.
“Through RDOF and state grants, Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in South Carolina and across the nation,” said Tim Williams, Vice President of Construction for Spectrum. “This investment allows us to deliver top-quality broadband, mobile, TV, and voice services to Cherokee County, supported by local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service at competitive prices.”
Spectrum Internet now offers residential and small business customers speeds up to 1 Gbps with Advanced WiFi, starting at 300 Mbps, all with no modem fees, data caps, or contracts. Spectrum Business Internet provides speeds up to 1 Gbps, with options for 300 Mbps and 600 Mbps. The company is also upgrading its network to offer gigabit upload speeds and multi-gigabit download speeds across its 41-state service area.
State Representative Brian Lawson praised the expansion, noting that the availability of high-speed internet is a significant development for Cherokee County’s previously unserved communities, benefiting both businesses and families.
According to the FCC’s January 2023 “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report,” Spectrum consistently exceeds advertised download and upload speeds across all tiers, even during peak usage hours.
In addition to broadband, Spectrum’s new services in Cherokee County include Spectrum Mobile™ and Spectrum TV®. Spectrum Mobile, the fastest-growing mobile provider in the U.S., offers nationwide 5G coverage and plans starting at $29.99 per month. Spectrum TV provides more than 270 HD channels and access to 85,000 free On Demand movies and shows. The Spectrum TV App allows users to stream content across platforms like Roku, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, and more.
