Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a leading global provider of satellite communications, has introduced the next-generation of its acclaimed L-band tactical satellite service, L-TAC. This enhanced service now offers on-demand access, allowing users to utilize it precisely when and where needed. The L-TAC service operates through Viasat’s global L-band network, enabling connections between radio users and command centers around the world with the native waveforms, encryption, and secure terrestrial network of tactical radios.
The upgraded L-TAC solution features an automated ordering and provisioning system, along with an automated L-TAC channel assignment capability for improved resource management. A new web portal will allow end users or Viasat partners to order or schedule L-TAC service. This advanced feature enables users to request and receive service on-demand within specific beams and geographic regions, facilitating immediate service for global government customers and more efficient resource scheduling.
Additionally, U.S. government customers now have access to a radio frequency over Internet protocol (RFoIP) solution for remote monitoring of L-TAC channels. This allows L-TAC user nets to be accessed remotely over IP, connecting users to headquarters, forward operating bases, or other distant locations.
Traditionally, government and military users have relied on line-of-sight Ultra High Frequency (UHF), Very High Frequency (VHF), and UHF SATCOM systems for tactical communications. Viasat’s L-TAC service offers a valuable alternative, complementing existing UHF, VHF, and UHF TACSAT radios. It utilizes the same security-accredited equipment with advanced encryption over L-band satellite connections via interoperable waveforms.
Susan Miller, President of Viasat Government, stated, “Our award-winning L-TAC solution has been a trusted choice for tactical, beyond line-of-sight communications with thousands of units in deployment. We are committed to continuous innovation to meet the evolving needs of our government customers. This latest L-TAC advancement directly addresses user feedback, enhancing capabilities while delivering the flexibility and ease-of-use expected by today’s warfighters.”
The L-TAC solution has long been relied upon worldwide for its reliable voice and data connectivity, offering robust and flexible beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) capabilities for missions across air, sea, and land. The service currently supports global operations for various nations’ armed forces and is also available for civilian use by police, fire, medical support services, emergency responders, aid agencies, and embassies.
