Adtran has announced a strategic partnership with Sonic Fiber Internet to introduce 50G PON (passive optical network) connectivity across California. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for high-bandwidth applications, such as data-heavy streaming, smart home integrations, and high-speed business connectivity. By adopting Adtran’s 50G PON technology, Sonic will offer ultra-fast internet services to both residential and business customers, setting a new standard in connectivity.
Adtran’s 50G PON solution is designed for seamless integration with existing GPON and XGS-PON networks, enabling easy, non-disruptive upgrades that preserve current services while future-proofing infrastructure. This upgrade will also support Combo PON configurations, allowing Sonic to deploy multiple generations of fiber technology and maximize network flexibility and cost efficiency.
“This partnership with Adtran positions Sonic as a leader in high-speed connectivity in California, ready to meet the evolving needs of data-intensive applications and upcoming standards like Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 8,” said Stephen Bradley, VP of Sales and Marketing at Sonic Fiber Internet. “Our 50G PON rollout will keep us ahead of market demands and give our customers the fastest, most reliable internet experience at competitive prices.”
Adtran’s 50G PON technology ensures symmetrical 50Gbit/s speeds and has been engineered for high-density deployment areas, including urban residential complexes, corporate campuses, and public Wi-Fi networks. By facilitating incremental network upgrades, Sonic can maintain service reliability while advancing connectivity standards.
Christoph Glingener, CTO of Adtran, added, “Sonic’s commitment to 50G PON reinforces its role as an innovator in ultra-fast internet services. This partnership enables Sonic to implement a sustainable and cost-effective solution that meets current and future connectivity demands, supporting use cases from home internet to smart city infrastructure.”
For those interested in further details, Adtran and Sonic will host a joint webinar on November 14.
