CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, marking the commencement of a decade-long partnership dedicated to propelling Hulu Kelang into the realm of smart cities. The collaboration aims to leverage cutting-edge 5G technology solutions on a robust fiber optics infrastructure, fostering the development of a smart city ecosystem designed to enhance the lives of residents and spur business growth in the region.
The MoU signing ceremony, graced by Selangor Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, saw CelcomDigi represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Idham Nawawi, and MPAJ’s Chairman, Dr. Ani binti Ahmad, signing on behalf of the Municipal Council.
Expressing his satisfaction with the collaboration, Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin stated, “I am pleased to witness today’s MoU Signing Ceremony between MPAJ and CelcomDigi. This ceremony reflects MPAJ’s commitment to establishing a smart city, aligning with the State Government’s vision to transform Selangor into a Smart State by 2025. I hope that the initiatives under the Smart City framework will positively impact the ecosystem in an inclusive manner, benefiting society, the economy, and the environment.”
In his remarks on this significant collaboration, CelcomDigi’s CEO, Datuk Idham, emphasized that the partnership with MPAJ is a strategic alliance with a shared vision to establish a practical smart city infrastructure and ecosystem model. The collaboration entails closely evaluating and implementing the most effective smart city solutions to transform Hulu Kelang into a digitally integrated district, fostering a contemporary and sustainable environment that catalyzes economic growth and enhances residents’ well-being.
Datuk Idham also highlighted the ambition to leverage both local and global technology partnerships to develop this ecosystem, intending it to serve as a benchmark for other municipalities. He envisions the creation of an interoperable network of smart city solutions across the country.
This collaboration aligns with MPAJ’s “Smart City Framework,” a visionary plan unveiled in January 2022 to metamorphose Ampang Jaya into a smart city, emphasizing Smart Infrastructure, Smart Economy, Smart Community, Smart Environment, and Smart Governance. As the chosen provider for connectivity and digital solutions, CelcomDigi will oversee the coordination and implementation of smart city-related solutions and technologies, focusing specifically on the Hulu Kelang district as the pilot project area for the Ampang Jaya Smart City development.
As a crucial component of this collaboration, CelcomDigi will lead the establishment of a sandbox environment, bringing together a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders, including innovators, entrepreneurs, startups, technology providers, and device manufacturers. This platform will enable them to test and potentially implement their products and services in a live environment, contributing to the realization of the Hulu Kelang smart city initiative. MPAJ has already made strides in its smart city initiatives, installing CCTV, Wi-Fi, and Smart Junction solutions in various locations within its administrative area.
