EchoStar Corporation has officially notified the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that its expansive 5G network across the United States delivers download speeds of 35 Mbps or higher to more than 70 percent of the country’s population. This declaration comes in the wake of a comprehensive nationwide drive test, marking the culmination of EchoStar’s commitments to the FCC for its 2023 deployment objectives.
John Swieringa, EchoStar’s President of Technology and Chief Operating Officer, remarked on this achievement, stating, “Today signifies yet another significant stride forward as we advance in constructing the world’s inaugural commercial-grade Open RAN 5G network, offering American consumers a broader spectrum of wireless service alternatives. The successful drive test underscores the efficacy of the Boost Wireless Network in furnishing top-tier service to our clientele. This accomplishment stands as a testament to the dedication of our team, who expedited the construction of our Open RAN network within an unprecedented timeframe.”
Conducted in adherence to FCC-approved protocols and under the supervision of an impartial overseer, the drive test represents the conclusive phase of EchoStar’s 2023 Nationwide 5G Deployment Commitment to the FCC. This latest certification builds upon previous milestones achieved by the Boost Wireless Network, including the recent announcement of EchoStar’s provision of Voice over New Radio (VoNR) service, or 5G voice, to over 200 million Americans across the nation. This VoNR deployment stands as the most extensive commercial implementation of this groundbreaking technology to date.
