KISTI Launches Asia’s First 600G Research Network

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) has achieved a significant milestone by introducing South Korea’s premier 600G nationwide research network. Powered by Ciena’s cutting-edge 6500 platform featuring WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) technology, this network underscores South Korea’s commitment to advancing research, development, and digital innovation on a global scale.

BuSeung Cho, director of KISTI’s KREONET Center, elaborated on the necessity of this high-speed network, stating, “Given the surge in data-intensive scientific endeavors reliant on massive datasets, KREONET was established to facilitate seamless collaboration among member institutions. This state-of-the-art infrastructure empowers researchers with the bandwidth required for groundbreaking scientific and technological pursuits.”

Notably, this 600G research network stands as a pioneering initiative in Asia, equipped to meet the rigorous demands of KREONET’s diverse membership base, both domestically and internationally. Leveraging Ciena’s 6500 platform ensures KISTI remains agile in adapting to the ever-evolving needs of advanced research. Moreover, Ciena’s WaveLogic coherent technology not only enhances optical network performance but also optimizes power consumption, contributing to sustainable infrastructure development.
