Maxis Excellence Award eKelas Program Acknowledges Academic Progress via Digital Learning

Maxis, Malaysia’s leading integrated telecommunications company, continues to make a significant impact through its flagship community initiative, Maxis eKelas, aimed at enhancing the academic performance of students in rural areas. This free after-school digital learning programme has seen substantial growth, with over 120,000 registered users benefiting from its resources.

Recently, Maxis granted Anugerah Gemilang eKelas 2024 awards to deserving students from nine states across Malaysia, recognizing their academic achievements. Launched in 2017, the Anugerah Gemilang eKelas programme celebrates students who have shown remarkable progress in their educational journeys. Criteria for selection include academic improvements, participation in eKelas activities and competitions, and endorsements from their teachers regarding personal development.

The 2024 award ceremony, attended by Puan Fadzliaton binti Zainudin, Deputy Director of the Educational Resources and Technology Division at the Ministry of Education, and Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis, also featured representatives from the Ministry’s English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) and Sports, Co-curricular & Arts Division (BSKK).

Mariam Bevi Batcha, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Maxis, expressed pride in acknowledging the academic and personal growth of Maxis eKelas participants, highlighting their dedication as an inspiration in the mission to empower students through digital education. She emphasized Maxis’ commitment to supporting more students on their educational paths through eKelas, ensuring their readiness for future success.

In addition to accolades, Maxis recently donated 330 refurbished laptops to 77 primary and secondary schools nationwide. This initiative aims to enhance digital learning access, particularly for students in rural communities, enabling them to benefit from resources such as Maxis eKelas.

Maxis eKelas provides free access to comprehensive educational content aligned with the Malaysian school syllabus, covering subjects like Science, Mathematics, English, Bahasa Melayu, History, and offering experiential learning opportunities. Integrated into the Ministry of Education’s digital learning portal DELIMa since last year, Maxis eKelas has extended its reach to all students and educators nationwide.

Reflecting on their experiences, two recipients of the Anugerah Gemilang eKelas 2024 grants shared their testimonials:

Cherrylane Rachell Cornalius, a Form 4 student from SMK Tun Fuad Stephens, Sabah, remarked, “I believe in the power of effort; receiving the Anugerah Gemilang eKelas has motivated me to strive harder for personal improvement.”

Chong Pohyi, a graduate from SMK Tasek Utara, Johor, highlighted her growth through eKelas competitions, stating, “Participating in these competitions has helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. Now, as I pursue tertiary studies through a matriculation programme, the SSPN grant has provided crucial support for my educational journey.”

The grants awarded RM750 to primary school students and RM1,500 to secondary school students, deposited into their National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts, ensuring future financial support for their educational endeavors.
