Murata’s LoRa® Module Streamlines IoT Wireless Design

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) has introduced its latest innovation, the Type 2GT module, setting a new standard in IoT connectivity. This cutting-edge, multi-band, low-power radio (LoRa®) module addresses the diverse requirements of IoT devices, offering seamless global deployment and meeting stringent certification standards across industries.

Measuring just 9.98 x 8.70 x 1.74mm, the Type 2GT module boasts a compact design housed in a metal case on a PCB, packaged as a land grid array. Its technical excellence is underlined by the integration of Semtech’s LR1121 RF transceiver IC, a thermally compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO), a second 32KHz crystal, an RF switch, and an RF matching network. These components ensure precise frequency accuracy and consistent performance in various environmental conditions, simplifying PCB designs for end-device designers and reducing time-to-market.

The Type 2GT module supports multiple frequency bands, including sub-GHz bands, the 2.4GHz ISM band, and the 2.1GHz satellite communications S-band, catering to the diverse needs of IoT applications such as smart agriculture, industrial and environmental sensing, and building automation. Additionally, markets like asset tracking, utilities metering, and remote-controlled toys and drones stand to benefit from its features. By supporting the 2.4GHz ISM band, the module enables higher data rates and a common channel plan globally, circumventing duty-cycle limitations imposed by European standards on sub-GHz communications.

Carlo Tinella, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Semtech, commended Murata’s strategic move in introducing the third-generation multi-band LoRa® module, stating that it streamlines and secures the development process for applications operating across sub-GHz and 2.4GHz LoRa® frequencies. With certifications from European CE, American FCC, Japanese TELEC, and Canadian IC standards, the Type 2GT module allows designers to reuse RF test reports across different authorities, significantly reducing compliance barriers and fostering innovation in the IoT ecosystem worldwide.

Murata invites developers, partners, and innovators to explore the potential of the Type 2GT module, aiming to harness the power of LoRa® technology to create intelligent, efficient, and sustainable IoT solutions. Through collaboration, Murata aims to push the boundaries of possibility, creating a more connected, intelligent, and environmentally conscious world.
