Persistent Advocacy for Social Justice and Empowering the Black Community

At UScellular, we thrive on respect, inclusivity, and embracing diverse perspectives. Our commitment to connecting people to what matters most drives our workplace culture, empowering our team to contribute to a more equitable world. This Juneteenth, we reflect on our past diversity commitments while focusing on future initiatives:

Four years ago, we pledged to strengthen our community partnerships in combating racism, emphasizing:

  • Standing with our Black associates, leaders, and communities in advocating for equality.
  • Adopting Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a day of service and a paid holiday.
  • Hosting quarterly discussions with our Network of Black Associates (NBA) to address racism and inequality.
  • Supporting and participating in Juneteenth celebrations and educational programs.

We continue to expand our internal initiative, “Inclusion is How We D.O. Conversations,” fostering cross-cultural understanding and equity through:

  • Interactive sessions on social justice outcomes, global conflicts, and personal genealogy.
  • Annual Inclusion Summits enhancing cultural competence among thousands of associates.
  • Mandatory DE&I training for all hiring managers and vice presidents, with ongoing education on unconscious bias and diversity fundamentals.

Our commitment extends to partnering with Urban and Diverse Economic Empowerment Organizations, including:

  • Collaborations with historically Black colleges and universities to cultivate talent.
  • Support for STEM education through partnerships with organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Girls Who Code.
  • Donation to YWCA for updating their Tech GYRLS curriculum, benefiting diverse youth.

We prioritize increasing spend with minority-owned businesses, including Black-owned enterprises, and collaborate closely with the National Black MBA Association and Urban Leagues to promote career opportunities.

Building our commitment to social justice is a journey akin to building a wireless network—requiring care, attention, and continuous evolution. While we’ve made strides, our dedication to diversity and inclusion remains steadfast. We strive to ensure every associate, customer, and supplier feels valued, respected, and supported, celebrating our differences across race, age, religion, and beyond.
