Spectrum News has officially launched its 24/7 news network on linear TV, catering to Spectrum customers across the state of Maine. Originally introduced as a streaming service in the fall of 2023, Spectrum News Maine now delivers local headlines at the beginning and end of each hour, coupled with hyperlocal weather updates every 10 minutes on the 1’s. This new linear network is accessible to Spectrum subscribers on channel 1, as well as through the Spectrum News App on mobile devices, Xumo Stream Box, Roku, and Apple TV.
The network seamlessly integrates Spectrum News+, a feature that compiles locally significant stories from various parts of the country, alongside on-the-ground reporting from Maine-based journalists.
Sam Singal, Group Vice President Editorial and Content Spectrum Networks, emphasized the heightened importance of reliable local news in the current era. Singal, who has personal ties to Maine, expressed excitement about bringing Spectrum News to the communities in the state, underscoring the network’s dedication to delivering unbiased and trustworthy journalism.
Spectrum News has become an integral part of Maine communities since its inception in 2021 as a digital-only local news platform. Covering a wide range of topics, including local conservation initiatives, severe weather updates, and breaking news, Spectrum News has emerged as a trusted voice for residents in times of celebration and crisis, fostering a sense of connection and awareness.
The network’s success extends beyond Maine, with Spectrum News consistently surpassing major cable and broadcast news networks among Spectrum customers. In 2023, it averaged 2 million daily viewing households across its linear and digital platforms in states such as California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Spectrum News has been actively expanding its footprint, introducing a national streaming news network, Spectrum News+, and launching linear TV news networks in seven states. Additionally, the network rolled out a mobile news app with over 3.7 million downloads, debuted three digital local news operations, and created a local connected TV news app accessible on Xumo Stream Box, Roku, and Apple TV. These initiatives underscore Spectrum News’ commitment to providing accessible and diverse platforms for its audience.
Note: The statement regarding Spectrum set-top box data is based on information sourced from all markets where Spectrum News has distribution, using a minimum threshold of five consecutive minutes of viewing on one station to count as a viewing household.
