Vonage, a prominent player in cloud communications, renowned for facilitating businesses in their digital transformation and affiliated with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), has unveiled a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to expedite the introduction of innovative solutions for millions of AWS developers through AWS Marketplace. This partnership amalgamates Vonage’s platform, rooted in communications APIs and network APIs interfacing with communications service provider (CSP) networks, Ericsson’s 5G network capabilities, and AWS services. The collective effort aims to craft a suite of solutions empowering customers to leverage the network for driving innovation and enhancing overall customer experiences.
Kathrin Renz, Vice President of AWS Industries, expressed the shared commitment of AWS and Vonage towards assisting customers in delivering innovation and value. She noted that the collaboration intends to stimulate new applications across various industries, combining 5G networks and cutting-edge technologies like generative artificial intelligence to fuel product innovation and elevate the overall customer experience.
Citing Omdia’s Cybersecurity Decision Maker Survey 2023, which highlighted that 92% of organizations experienced a security incident or breach in the preceding 12 months, and imposter scams resulting in $2.6 billion in losses in the US in 2022, the Federal Trade Commission underscores the growing concern of fraud risks for businesses. Addressing this, Vonage plans to introduce the Vonage Fraud Protection solution on AWS Marketplace. This solution will include the Vonage CAMARA-based API SIM Swap (in alpha when available), Fraud Defender solution, bolstered by AWS generative artificial intelligence (AI) services, and Verify and Number Insights APIs combined with Amazon Rekognition. Vonage intends to continue building similar solutions, leveraging the power of network APIs to expedite market access.
Among the features of this solution, the SIM Swap network API enables developers to determine if a phone number recently underwent a SIM card change and whether fraud was involved. The enhanced Fraud Defender API proactively identifies fraud signals, the Vonage Verify API enables secure silent authentication, and the Vonage Number Insights API provides Fraud Scoring capabilities.
To enhance the fraud detection capabilities, AWS generative AI services will be integrated, enabling businesses to fortify themselves against mobile fraud while simultaneously improving the overall customer experience.
Niklas Heuveldop, Vonage CEO and Head of Business Area Global Communications Platform for Ericsson, emphasized the accelerated capability to embed communications and network APIs in applications, delivering new product offerings for both AWS and Vonage customers. This collaboration exposes previously unavailable capabilities within the 5G network, enhancing existing applications with network information and facilitating the development of a new class of applications.
Voicify, a company integrating Vonage’s communications APIs into conversational AI experiences for the restaurant industry, welcomes the new Fraud Protection Solution. Nick Laidlaw, Chief Technology Officer at Voicify, highlights that the inclusion of AWS and additional network APIs, such as SIM Swap, will enhance security for SMS and telephony, reinforcing their commitment to providing a trusted conversational AI service.
