T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) has successfully completed an extensive network upgrade, expanding its 5G coverage to over 48,000 square miles in Upstate New York. Over the past two years, T-Mobile has invested significantly in enhancing its network infrastructure, introducing faster services to a broader customer base throughout the region. The multi-year initiative involved the addition of nearly 400 new cell sites and upgrades to over 800 existing towers, extending 5G coverage and bolstering capacity to accommodate the suburban and rural growth in Upstate New York.
The 5G launch includes key locations such as Albany Airport, Clarkson University, Fair Haven State Park, Fort Drum, Lake Placid, SUNY Plattsburgh, and more. Notably, counties like Albany, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Erie, Monroe, Niagara, Onondaga, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and St. Lawrence have experienced significant network improvements.
Luis Reyes, Vice President of Field Engineering for the Northeast Region at T-Mobile, emphasized the importance of the network upgrades, stating, “Whether it’s the Catskill Mountains or Niagara Falls, Upstate New York is home to some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, so our 5G network upgrades and expansion will better serve customers who both live in and visit this part of the Empire State.”
T-Mobile remains committed to providing enhanced services in Upstate New York in 2024, with plans to continue building new installations and upgrading existing sites.
The network enhancements have facilitated the introduction of T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet and Business Internet services in Upstate New York. Presently, 5G Home Internet is accessible to 40% of homes in the region, covering over 1.6 million households. This advancement allows households to transition from traditional internet service providers to T-Mobile’s fast, reliable, and contract-free internet services. T-Mobile Business Internet also simplifies connectivity for businesses across the wireless footprint.
Highlighting its ongoing commitment to New York, T-Mobile recently opened a Customer Experience Center in Henrietta and established new retail stores in various locations across Upstate New York. The company’s presence in the state extends beyond business operations, as T-Mobile actively contributes to local communities through its Hometown Grants program. This initiative provides funding for city beautification projects and public improvements, with five New York towns having already received grants totaling nearly $225,000.
Furthermore, T-Mobile is dedicated to addressing the digital divide in education through Project 10Million, a $10.7 billion initiative offering free internet connectivity and mobile hotspots to eligible student households. In New York alone, T-Mobile has connected over 690,000 students across 215 school districts, providing access to affordable laptops and tablets.
As T-Mobile continues to expand its footprint and services in New York, the company remains committed to making a positive impact on local communities and fostering digital inclusion in education. Square mileage coverage values are based on outdoor coverage levels, and more information about 5G device compatibility and coverage details can be found on T-Mobile’s official website.
