TELUS plans to invest $10 million in New Westminster this year, part of its broader $17 billion commitment over the next five years to enhance wireless connectivity and expand its TELUS PureFibre network across British Columbia. This initiative aims to foster innovation, support economic growth, and strengthen local communities. Since 2000, TELUS has invested over $63 billion in British Columbia, focusing on building robust network infrastructure and operations, as well as acquiring spectrum to connect homes and businesses statewide, solidifying its position as B.C.’s leading internet service provider.*
Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of TELUS, emphasized the critical role of reliable network infrastructure in keeping British Columbians connected to essential resources. “Our $17 billion investment in network infrastructure, operations, and spectrum over the next five years, totaling $73 billion nationwide by 2028, underscores our commitment to providing the world’s best network experience,” he stated. These investments support transformative changes in healthcare, education, telecommuting, environmental sustainability, and digital economies, while also bridging digital and socioeconomic disparities to empower all members of society.
TELUS leverages its advanced networks to drive productivity and foster innovations across various sectors, including health, education, agriculture, climate action, energy, transportation, and social equity, thereby contributing to economic advancement throughout the province. Committed to addressing pressing societal challenges, TELUS continues to deliver leading-edge technology solutions and initiatives that positively impact lives, with ongoing plans through 2028 to make a significant difference in British Columbia and across Canada.
In addition to its technological investments, TELUS’s Vancouver and Coastal Community Board has donated over $15 million to youth-focused charities since 2005, with $900,000 granted to 49 charities supporting youth, alongside 28 health and 21 education programs last year. Nationally, from 2000 to 2023, TELUS invested $259 billion in network infrastructure, operations, and spectrum, including over $63 billion in British Columbia. These investments align with TELUS’s capital expenditure projections for 2024, as detailed in its fourth-quarter 2023 results and 2024 targets announcement on February 9, 2024.
TELUS upholds tax responsibility as a means to further invest in its communities, contributing approximately $57 billion in total tax and spectrum remittances since 2000 to federal, provincial, and municipal governments across Canada. These funds support public infrastructure, education, healthcare, cultural endeavors, and other initiatives that enhance the social and economic well-being of the communities it serves, including over $2.3 billion in taxes in 2023 alone.
